Is your handle actually available?
Paste a potential X handle and get a format check, a pattern based availability score, and alternative suggestions if your first pick is likely taken. Short plain handles are all gone, but longer handles and variations are usually winnable. The tool surfaces which is which.
How the availability score works
We estimate based on length and pattern because those correlate with availability. Plain handles under 7 characters are almost all taken since 2013. Handles with underscores, numbers, or 10 plus characters have much higher availability rates. The score reflects this pattern, not a real API check (which requires X authentication we are not doing client side).
Why would a handle I want be taken by someone dormant?
Very few dormant handles actually release. X runs an inactive account policy that reclaims handles after six months of zero activity, but the cleanup is inconsistent and takes effect rarely. Handle squatters also frequently just post once a year to keep their handles flagged active. For most founders, accepting an alternative handle is faster than waiting for a dormant one to release.
Can I pay someone for a taken handle?
Unofficial handle marketplaces exist. X does not sanction or support them. We do not sell handles, facilitate handle transfers, or offer any product related to handle acquisition. This tool exists to help you pick a good handle up front, which is the path that actually works.
Should I use numbers in my handle?
Numbers are fine from an algorithm perspective. The X ranking model does not penalize handles with numbers. The downside is purely brand aesthetic: numbers can look placeholder-y or amateurish depending on how they are used. A year suffix (e.g. yourbrand2026) is worse than a semantic suffix (e.g. yourbrand_io).
