X Premium verification, in 2026.
X replaced the legacy verification system in 2023 and has iterated on the replacement several times since. This guide covers what Premium actually means in April 2026, what each tier costs, what it unlocks algorithmically, and whether it is worth subscribing for operators already running paid signal campaigns.
The short answer
X Premium in 2026 is a paid subscription that bundles a blue checkmark, a credibility score modifier in the For You algorithm, access to revenue share, and a handful of product features. It is sold directly by X at three tiers (Basic, Premium, Premium Plus) and cannot be purchased from any third party. Anyone offering to sell you verification is running a scam.
Whether it is worth subscribing depends on the operator type. For creators chasing revenue share, yes, because eligibility requires the subscription. For brand accounts doing customer support, usually yes, because the credibility modifier lifts customer tweets into Discovery more reliably. For casual personal accounts, usually no, because the features do not justify the monthly cost at that usage level.
What Premium actually costs
As of April 2026, the public subscription tiers are:
- Premium Basic, $3 per month. Checkmark, ads shown at normal rate, no revenue share access, basic feature set.
- Premium, $8 per month. Checkmark, reduced ads, revenue share eligible (if other thresholds met), full feature set including bookmark organization and text editing.
- Premium Plus, $16 per month. Checkmark, zero ads, revenue share eligible at higher multipliers, early access to new features, priority support inside X itself.
Annual billing offers roughly 17 percent discount across all tiers. Organization accounts have a separate Verified Organizations tier at $200 per month with additional team member seats at $50 each. Pricing has been stable since the last adjustment in August 2024 and X has not signaled any planned changes.
What the checkmark actually means now
The blue check in 2026 signals two things: the account pays for Premium, and the account has completed X standard identity verification (phone number, government ID in some jurisdictions). That is all it signals. It does not signal notability, newsworthiness, professional authority, or any of the things the legacy verification program used to signal.
Some operators worry the check has been devalued because it is now available to anyone willing to pay. In practice, the opposite has happened for serious operators. Because the check costs money and completing identity verification requires effort, accounts willing to pay are disproportionately real. Scam accounts and spam networks cannot economically sustain the subscription at scale, so the check has actually become a weak filter for real accounts, just in a different way than legacy verification implied.
The algorithmic modifier
Premium subscription is one of the eight inputs to the account credibility score described in our algorithm guide. Subscribed accounts get a modest credibility bonus that influences For You distribution aggressiveness on their tweets.
Our regression analysis across tracked campaigns shows Premium subscription correlates with roughly 8 to 14 percent higher For You impression rates compared to identical accounts without subscription, holding other variables constant. The modifier is real but modest. It is not a 2x lift. It is a small compounding advantage that matters more on the margin than in the center.
For an account already earning strong engagement, the 8 to 14 percent lift is real money in impression value. For an account struggling to earn engagement at all, the same 8 to 14 percent is 8 to 14 percent of a small number and does not solve the growth problem. The subscription compounds what is already there.
Revenue share eligibility
Premium revenue share requires Premium or Premium Plus subscription (Basic does not qualify). Thresholds for eligibility are 500 followers plus 5 million impressions across three rolling months, both measured on the subscribed account. Payouts are in USD, wired monthly to the account owner bank.
For creators targeting revenue share as a material income line, Premium subscription is unavoidable. The subscription cost is trivial against typical payouts once eligibility is achieved. Typical first month eligible payouts run $40 to $2,000 depending on niche, which pays back the $8 or $16 monthly cost many times over.
Our Impressions and Bookmarks product is designed to clear the 5M impression threshold on a 90 day drip, and we recommend pairing with Premium subscription from day one of the drip so the account accumulates the full credibility window.
The other features worth noting
- Edit tweets. Premium and Premium Plus allow editing tweets within 60 minutes of posting. Useful for correcting typos before the tweet propagates. Edits are visible in the tweet history to anyone who clicks.
- Longer tweets. Premium tiers allow tweets up to 25,000 characters, versus 280 for free accounts. Useful for thread alternatives and long form commentary.
- Bookmark organization. Folders and tags for bookmarks. Nice quality of life feature for operators who actively bookmark content.
- Custom app icon. Cosmetic. Premium Plus only.
- AI features. Grok access and various AI assisted composition tools. Have been iterated on repeatedly, currently of mixed utility depending on the task.
- Priority support. Premium Plus only. Reasonable response times on platform issues that free accounts cannot get attention on.
When to subscribe
Three operator types should subscribe:
Creators targeting revenue share. Subscription is required for eligibility. The monthly cost is trivial against any meaningful payout. Subscribe on day one of a monetization runway, not at month two.
Brand accounts doing customer support or community management. The credibility modifier helps customer service tweets reach more users, and the identity verification signal helps customers trust that the account is the actual brand rather than an impersonator. Subscribe at the Verified Organizations tier if the team needs multiple seats.
Founders actively building a personal audience. The credibility modifier compounds with content quality over 6 to 12 months, lifting eventual growth ceiling. Subscribe early enough that the compounding has time to work.
Two operator types should skip:
Casual personal accounts. Features do not justify the subscription cost at usage levels where the account is not trying to grow or monetize. The edit feature and longer tweets are nice but not $8 per month nice for most users.
Dormant or recovery accounts. If the account is not actively posting, subscription is wasted spend. Subscribe only when posting cadence is consistent enough to benefit from the credibility modifier.
Premium plus Twitterz pairings
For operators running Twitterz campaigns, Premium subscription compounds the paid signal in useful ways. The credibility modifier lifts the baseline For You distribution on every tweet, which means our Engagement Suite shipments produce slightly higher organic pickup rates on subscribed accounts than non subscribed accounts. The effect is modest per tweet and meaningful across dozens of tweets.
For creators running the Premium runway playbook, Premium subscription is assumed from day one. The playbook will not work without it because revenue share eligibility requires subscription regardless of impression volume.
For founders running the cold account arc, Premium subscription is optional but helpful. We recommend subscribing at week 2 once the account has an initial follower base, because the credibility modifier works better on accounts that already have a small audience than on completely cold accounts.
The scam warning
A recurring scam in the follower growth category promises to sell verification or to get accounts verified through unofficial channels. This is not possible in 2026. X does not sell verification through third parties and does not offer verification bypass programs. Any service offering verification is either running a scam (taking your money and delivering nothing) or violating X terms in ways that will eventually get your account suspended.
We specifically do not offer verification as a product. We offer the follower base, engagement, and impression runway that make an account look worth verifying, but the verification itself has to happen through X directly. The subscription payment and identity verification process is straightforward and documented on X Help.
